Space engines and death calls

On January 16, 2007, a dazzling blue flame blasted across the sands of the Mojave desert. In many respects, it looked like an ordinary rocket engine test, but this was different. While most NASA rockets are powered by liquid oxygen and hydrogen or solid chemicals, "we were testing a methane engine," says project manager Terri Tramel of NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC).

Methane (CH4), the principal component of natural gas, is abundant in the outer solar system. It can be harvested from Mars, Titan, Jupiter, and many other planets and moons. With fuel waiting at the destination, a rocket leaving Earth wouldn't have to carry so much propellant, reducing the cost of a mission.

Traveling further out in the solar system, methane becomes even easier to come by. On Saturn's moon Titan, it is literally raining liquid methane. Titan is dotted with lakes and rivers of methane and other hydrocarbons that could one day serve as fuel depots. Imagine, a methane-powered rocket could allow a robotic probe to land on the surface of Titan, gather geological samples, refill its tanks, and blast off to return those samples to Earth. Such a sample-return mission from the outer solar system has never been attempted.

Ever wonder what would happen if they built a cell tower in a graveyard? Thanks to recent events in Pakistan, we now know: spirits of the dead, angered by the trespass, will ring people up and transmit synapse-shattering, high-frequency signals over their mobile phones, causing brain hemorrhage and instant death. You don't believe me? Twenty-seven people are dead already! Read more...

Super-psi me!
One of the most important mediums in history was Mrs. Leonora Piper of Boston, who was studied for twenty years by William James, Richard Hodgson, and other luminaries in the field of psychic research. Her mediumship raised important questions about her "controls," the guiding spirits who served as intermediaries between the living and the deceased - gatekeepers to the Beyond.

Dover Demon bewitches still, 30 years later
Do you believe in the Dover Demon? This weekend marks the 30th anniversary of the alleged sightings of the mysterious creature, described by several witnesses as about 4 feet tall with a thin body and arms, glowing eyes, and a huge, egg-shaped head.

Second "ghost ship" found off Queensland coast
Another unmanned vessel has been discovered floating off the coast of Queensland. The 6m barnacle-encrusted fibreglass boat, which was yesterday spotted in waters off the Sunshine Coast, is the second mystery vessel to be found in Queensland waters in less than a week.

The Ankh

The ankh is an ancient Egyptian symbol of life. Also known as an Ansata cross, it is a visual representation of a sandal strap. The combination of male and female symbols (the cross and circle) suggests fertility. It appears frequently in Egyptian writings about resurrection, and for a short time was used by Coptic Christians to symbolize the resurrection of Christ. The Ankh is also considered to have meaning in Ritual magick and in Wiccan/Neopagan traditions, as a symbol of immortality and completion.

It is very seldom that I make an overt plea to help a friend but I feel compelled to do so on this occasion, for reasons that will become obvious shortly. I received an email this week from a dear friend who had just given birth, which is always a joyous announcement. Unfortunately, there had been complications and the sweet little baby girl arrived 3 months premature.
Savannah weighed in at 1 lb. 11 oz. and her mother says that her hands are so tiny they don't even cover the tip of her mother's finger. Because her skin is so thin, they're not able to hold her yet, adding much to her mother's mounting anxiety, as you can imagine. My friend is earnestly requesting your support through prayers and sending positive energy to a little girl battling to stay alive, despite incredible odds. Short of blood sacrifices,  my friend Gelana says she'll welcome and be very grateful for any and all positive thoughts and energy.

See you in the ether !
